Huntsville High School drama students perform at NTS regional and provincial drama festivals

On April 19, Huntsville High School (HHS) drama students traveled to North Bay, Ontario to perform at the National Theatre School of Canada (NTS) Northern Regional Drama Festival.

The group of 20 students performed an original play, Hearts, Rings and Museum Things, which was written and co-directed by HHS student, Thomas Flynn, with the other co-directors of students Grace Baxter, Annaliese Duffield, and Brenna Smith.

“This was our first time attending the festival and we were blown away and inspired by the creativity and quality of the other performances,” said HHS teacher, Nicole Taylor. “We were delighted to find out at the final awards ceremony that our play had received an award for Outstanding Production, and that we had been invited to perform at the Ontario Provincial Showcase! In addition to this, four of our students received individual awards!”

The awards are as follows:

  • Thomas Flynn: Award of Excellence for writing the script Hearts, Rings, and Museum Things
  • Bella Levesque: Award of Excellence for her performance as Patty and the TikToker
  • Kendra Terry: Award of Merit for her performance as Becky
  • Hollace Marks: Award of Merit for her performance as Colette

A few weeks later the team traveled back to North Bay to perform at the NTS Drama Fest Ontario Provincial Showcase on May 8 to 11.

“It was an incredible opportunity for all students involved. We had the pleasure of watching 10 other schools’ performances, many of which were also student-written. We were again blown away by the talent and creativity of drama students across the province,” said Taylor. “We want to thank the following groups for helping to support us financially on our trip to provincials. Without your generosity, our students would not have had this enriching experience. Many thanks to the NTS, Huntsville Festival of the Arts, Huntsville Theatre Company, and Camp Tawingo!”
