TLDSB educators attend conference to support literacy professional development

57 educators from Trillium Lakelands District School Board (TLDSB) recently participated in the International Dyslexia Association (IDA) Conference held in Toronto on April 11 and 12.

Representing the Board’s Kindergarten to Grade 12 Curriculum Services and Specialized Services departments, the attendees engaged in two days of professional development focused on structured literacy instruction. The event featured a variety of sessions covering topics, including reading development, classroom instruction, intervention, and assessment.

The conference affirmed the work TLDSB educators have been doing on the science of reading, and provided additional research, resources, and practical classroom applications.

“This was an excellent opportunity to see how our work aligns from the classroom to the system level. Ensuring that every student from TLDSB graduates with strong reading skills is a goal we all endeavor to achieve, and the IDA Conference is an opportunity to ensure the work we are doing makes that possible for all students,” said TLDSB acting superintendent of learning, Dawn Sudsbury.
